Somewhere we have always wanted to go to was the Maison et Objet trade fair in Paris, and now we are a registered business we finally had the chance to peek behind the scenes at the trade world.
The sole purpose of Maison et Objet is to showcase all the vast array of home and garden suppliers that Europe has to offer under one roof, and it really is quite something. If you have ever walked past an intriguing furniture shop and wondered where they sourced that spectacular antler chandelier, the answer is here.
Firstly, if you are thinking about going (the next one starts on the 24th Jan 2014) try and allow at least two days to see it all.
Secondly, it is an exhibition unlike anything you will ever see and we would go again in a heartbeat.
The fair is held in the Parc des Expositions, which is so large it has its own station, with trains running to and from every 15 minutes. To walk from one side to the other, even if it wasn't full of fascinating stalls, would take at least a day. There are eight halls, each one specialising in different aspects of Home Design – we headed for the Interior Decoration and Home Accessories halls first.
From to the most magical Christmas stalls we have ever seen, to specialist craft silk suppliers, we were in heaven! Most of the stalls are designed to be a visual catalogue of products, so it feels very much like you’re walking through the set of Homes and Gardens Magazine!
We spent most of the day picking out fabulously expensive items that we could only dream about stocking – maybe when we have our first shop we will treat ourselves!
We spent the rest of the trip walking around and eating! A gorgeous florist was introduced to us by a friend of ours. The style in Paris is so chic, eclectic and beautiful. They all seem to be so bursting with flowers and trinkets and miscellaneous objects and furniture, that they feel like individual fairy tale worlds that you are stepping into. We have forgotten the name of the florist, and have misplaced the card we took, so I promise once we find it we will post it! Stay tuned! :)
