AUTUMNAL NEW ENGLAND INSPIRED FLOWER ARRANGING WORKSHOP

I wanted to create a unique experience for you, that invites you into my world of creativity, with gorgeous flowers, foliage, enchanting music, delicious food, set in my London Studio with a brightly lit conservatory and large garden that is a country getaway in the heart of the City and the perfect backdrop for photographs. An experience that will stay with you forever and allow you to take what you will from what you have learnt and apply it to your own lifestyle.

Since it will be autumn, my favourite season for foliage and flowers, and such an iconic time aesthetically in the US, we will be incorporating my love of the autumn hues that New England is so famous for. I will be drawing inspiration from the sites and sounds that are so fondly embedded in my memory such as freshly pressed apple cider, corn maizes, pumpkins, that fresh crisp air and the crunching of leaves beneath my feet. My grandparents' red barn out back that used to host my Grandpa's airplane that smells of dust and vintage wares that now plays home to my vintage items that I have yet to ship back! I will be teaching you with these feelings in mind and want to try my best to recreate this for you in all five senses.

Day description:

Using autumn foliage we will create a wild table arrangement in the American farm, fine art style that is so sought after these days. Petals and leaves will flow over the sides, spilling out while the flowers embed themselves within the arrangement to create a gorgeous harmony between colour and space.

We will then create a luscious bouquet using flowers in a similar colour palette to compliment our table arrangement.

ONE DAY JAPANESE INSPIRED FLOWER ARRANGING WORKSHOP

I wanted to create a unique experience for you, that invites you into my world of creativity, with gorgeous flowers, foliage, enchanting music, delicious food, set in my London Studio with a brightly lit conservatory and large garden that is a country getaway in the heart of the City and the perfect backdrop for photographs. An experience that will stay with you forever and allow you to take what you will from what you have learnt and apply it to your own lifestyle. Since it will be autumn, my favourite season for foliage and flowers, and such an iconic time aesthetically in Japan, we will be incorporating the wabi-sabi art of imperfection that is often found in Japanese aesthetic and the art of Ikebana, using some beautiful wired urns and moss.

Day description:

Using Autumn foliage we will create a base for some beautiful Autumn coloured flowers to find their home in and amongst the leaves. It will be wild yet delicate, incorporating all of the knowledge that I have collected over the years having studied Ikebana and adding my twist on it. We will then cover the base of the arrangement with moss to give it that rich, lush Japanese country garden feel.

We will then create a luscious bouquet using flowers in a similar colour palette to compliment our urn arrangement.

"IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW HOW TO 'SEE', NOT JUST 'LOOK'. BEAUTY LIES EVERYWHERE HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT, ESPECIALLY IN THOSE SIMPLE EVERYDAY MOMENTS WE TAKE FOR GRANTED."

“The concept of “Home Away From Home” is so that you are able to capture those moments that are key to you, the things you love, the moments that speak to you, the environment that makes you feel calm or happy, and being able to visually tell that story whether it is for personal reasons or for your business. Not all of our senses can be physically present through a photograph, it is up to us to capture those moments through storytelling. The smoke of a crackling fire, the smell it emits, the sound we hear that soothes us, the heat it gives off... of course we can see all of this, but how do we capture all those senses in a single photograph?””
Who is this workshop for?
  • For anyone. Perhaps you haven't picked up a camera before but would like to learn, or maybe you are a pro wanting to learn how to view the world in a different way. Film and Digital camera's welcome.

  • How to use your camera in manual setting - ISO, f-stop, shutter speed
  • How I use my camera and decide what I want to photograph
  • How to compose your images
  • Understanding the importance of getting it right in-camera rather than relying on post-processing
  • What I mean by "shooting digital like film"
  • How to look for the light and understand colour composition
  • We will photograph a mini styled shoot as well as our surroundings to help you better understand the difference between having control over your subject matter and photographing what is already available to us in our surrounding and environment.
    • You will get to photograph some beautiful foliage and flowers but also take them home with you at the end of the day! :)
  • How to edit in Lightroom
  • As I am limiting this class to five people only, you will have time to chat to me one-to-one with any questions you may have. You will leave with a better understand of how to use these skills in day-to-day life.
